Awwa Abdullah is an inspiring example of the power of determination and overcoming challenges. She enrolled in the Girls’ Craft Institute at the Kuwait Educational Complex in Hargeisa in 2018 when she was thirteen years old. At that time, life was filled with difficulties for her, especially after losing her father, which left her to take on the responsibility of her family at a young age.
Awwa says, “Life was hard for me without a father, and the circumstances forced me to take responsibility for my family, but I refused to let circumstances define my future. I felt that I had found a purpose worth working and developing for, and now I am learning and improving my skills in the art of sewing at the craft institute.”
Over the past six years, Awwa has transformed from a girl facing significant challenges into a confident and capable young woman. This transformation is not only due to her learning the art of sewing but also because she found emotional support and guidance at the institute, which became her second family. She adds, “The institute not only gave me the opportunity to learn the art of sewing but also provided me with the emotional support and guidance necessary to achieve my dreams. I now work as an assistant at the institute, and I am extremely grateful to my family there.”
Awwa conveys an inspiring message to everyone who reads her story: “It doesn’t matter where you come from or your past; your dreams can be achieved if you are determined and work hard. I hope my story inspires you and motivates you to pursue your own dreams.”
Today, at nineteen years old, Awwa is a living example of the impact of vocational training in changing individuals’ lives and empowering them to realize their dreams despite all challenges. Her story inspires us all to work hard and believe in our abilities to create change.
